Large Blue with Gold Dots Hand Made Art Journal Kit

$80.00

Saving old books from the landfill one art journal at a time!

My love of journals and books collide in this handmade art journal art kit. This kit was designed for beginners as well as seasoned artists.

Art journaling can be used to practice and experiment with new ideas. Visual journals can be just for fun or can be a starting point for finished works of art to evolve.

My journals are made from a rescued book with handmade artisan papers on the inside covers. As a customer once said, they are perfectly imperfect!

There are three signatures (groups of papers) of ten pages each signature which equals 30 total pages and 60 sides.

The signatures include pieces of my own art as well as papers I found in our local reuse center.

I stitched three signatures into the cover using waxed linen thread. The cover includes one of my botanicals and fabric.

The inside pages range from newsprint to watercolor paper and everything in-between. I suggest you use gesso on all pages if you're going to add wet media (paint of any kind or liquid glue instead of a glue stick). Gesso may be purchased from Michael's, art shops, and online. Apply gesso to pages with a paintbrush and use long brush strokes. Let it dry before adding wet media. Gesso is a primer. It prevents the paint from soaking into your journal page and it strengthens the paper so that you can apply layers of collage and wet media.

The art kit includes everything you need to get started:

Large Blue with Gold Dots handmade art journal (6” x 9 1/2”)

Three artist pencils (from the reuse center)

One Uhu Glue stick

A pack of ephemera

Please keep in mind this is a hand-bound book so it is not perfect. It's a grungy book to experiment in and have fun!
